Phoenix Woodworks had its start in 1982 when Kevin Woodman created a new cabinet division for Creative Contracting in Novato, CA. In 1997, Kevin Woodman bought the cabinet business and reopened as Phoenix Woodworks one of the Bay areas premier suppliers of custom crafted wood. Kevin, a general contractor by license, a woodworker by trade, and an artist by nature, studied architecture at Fresno State College and Collge of Marin. He began his career as a graphic artist and ceramicist, but quickly gravitated toward the building trades because of the opportunity to engage his talents in large, multi-faceted projects. The artisans of Phoenix Woodworks have proved adept at handling everything from highly complex, multi-million dollar installations down to small pieces of beautifully finished furniture. Because of our relentless focus on perfection and timely delivery, we have consistently been chosen to work with the top architects and contractors in the Bay area. Our portfolio is proof of their trust. What kinds of projects do we handle? Cabinets, furniture, paneling, coffered ceilings, stairs, doors, and much more. If your project calls for the finest quality wood and craftsmanship, you will be delighted with the precision and aesthetic sense we bring to your work.

Legend has it, that when asked how he carved his famous statue of David, Michelangelo replied that the statue was always there all he had to do was chip away the excess marble. And so it is with wood.We choose to work with wood because it is alive. Within each piece of wood is a potential waiting to be unlocked. Whether the source wood will be turned into a cabinet, a Mission-style or Biedermeier desk, paneling for a library or great room, a coffered ceiling for a superbly appointed dining room or office, it is up to us -- the artisans -- to chip away what doesnt belong. In unlocking that potential, we practice communication, preparation, and meticulous execution. We know much about wood and woodworking; we know that there is always more to learn, and we find joy and pride in continually striving to improve. Most importantly, we believe that cabinetry and woodworking are an art. We derive immense satisfaction from creating a beautiful project and from making the entire process unfold as smoothly as the final finish.

While we rely on the ancient tools of the carpenters trade, we are early and enthusiastic adopters of extremely sophisticated computerized machines that help us achieve finishes, designs, and finished projects that are otherwise impossible. All pieces are modeled in 3d and developed with materials, sizes, machining information such as CNC cutting or laser cutting. Through years of experience we have become craftsmen and artisans.
